Opposition Slams Government Over “Dramabazi” and Undermined Democracy
Recent political discourse in India has seen sharp criticism from opposition leaders, raising pertinent questions about parliamentary conduct and the integrity of democratic processes. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav have voiced strong concerns, pointing towards what they describe as a troubling trend of political posturing over substantive governance.
Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of “dramabazi” and systematically eroding parliamentary conventions. Kharge highlighted the government’s alleged reluctance to engage in meaningful debates on crucial public issues. Furthermore, he criticized the alarming trend of important bills being passed without adequate discussion, effectively sidelining the very essence of legislative scrutiny. This approach, according to Kharge, undermines the foundational principles of parliamentary democracy, transforming it into a mere formality rather than a vibrant forum for national discourse.
Echoing sentiments of disillusionment, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav brought electoral integrity into question. Yadav demanded answers regarding the “drama” surrounding the deaths of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the Uttar Pradesh elections and called for immediate compensation for the affected families. More critically, he urged a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities in the voter list exercises, suggesting they were manipulated to unduly favour the ruling BJP. Such allegations, if substantiated, cast a shadow over the fairness of the electoral process, which is the bedrock of any democracy.
The combined criticisms from Kharge and Yadav paint a picture of a political landscape grappling with issues of transparency, accountability, and genuine democratic engagement. Both leaders underscore a shared apprehension that vital institutions are being circumvented, leading to a system where crucial public issues and electoral fairness take a backseat to political expediency. These concerns necessitate a robust public debate to ensure the health and vibrancy of India’s democratic framework.
